Next Chapter’s mission is grounded by the knowledge that lasting relationships are key to finding restoration. Lasting relationships are far more than grabbing a cup of coffee every so often. They are about taking the time to invest in one another and go through difficult things together. Part of this difficult work includes working through the trauma that each participant has faced. This is happening in our Trauma Healing Program led by Jessica LaFavor, our Women’s Site Director.
“Trauma is a wound of the heart and mind that causes deep suffering”(Trauma Healing Basics). Trauma can have a long lasting impact and it can be debilitating.
However, coming together as a community and building the skills necessary will equip a person to address the trauma that they have experienced.
Our Trauma Healing program comes from the Trauma Healing Institute, which uses a Biblical approach to work through trauma by bringing communities together to use proven mental health practices. As a certified healing leader, Jessica is able to walk the ladies of the group through these practices by actively engaging in exercises that allow them to confront and identify the trauma in their lives. Each week, the ladies also take the time to practice skills that will help them to work through the trauma on their own!
